How come 2 T42 with same specs have a 400$US difference?

#1 Post by yellow_lenghan » Wed Oct 27, 2004 8:08 pm

On IBM.com, the 2 models are:

23736VU for 2549$: http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_23736VU

and

2373JTU for 2149$: http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_2373JTU

The ONLY difference that I see between the two is that the 23736VU has Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG while the 2373JTU has IBM 11b/g Wi-Fi wireless.

Please enlighten me! Am I missing something?

Bill's got this listed on his website for $1,835
(search 2373-6vu: http://www.thinkpads.com/start.htm)! Don't know if it's still a valid offer?

Look for warranty differences. One is probably 3-year, the other 1-year (also, mail-in v. on-site, accidental protection, etc.)
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

Sometimes IBM have different web prices by mistake.
I was able to buy my 2378fvu for $1664 w/ ed discount. Apparently you cannot get more than 5% discount from the web price but I was able to get 10% because that is what was advertised on the web.

I think if you can find a price miscalculation at much lower price you could call an IBM salesman and as long as they can get authrization you will be able to buy at a higher discount.

I lucked out.. I am not sure if they are still offering it for that price. This was about 2 weeks ago.

Yes, as you said warranty is the same.

And the strange thing about the softwares is that it's the one at 2149$ that has all the added softwares
