14", 15" and SXGA+, UXGA in the UK

#1 Post by Zirynx » Thu Oct 28, 2004 9:00 am

Like many people here have been, I am currently in a total quandary about which way to go! The only decision I've made is that I don't want 1024*768. Beyond the readability of the screen res, it's actually the raw 'bulk' (or not!) and battery life issues that I am unresolved on.

I have read (re-read and re-re-read :? ) the very detailed posts on this subject (so, sorry for this one) but at the end of it all, whilst people's individual opinions are interesting to read, (I find my own opinion swaying as I move through the posts :? ) there's absolutely nothing like getting your mitts on something, picking it up, putting it down, swinging it around in the air if necessary  and even looking at the screen to see if you really are happy with your prospective choice, before lashing out a large quantity of £s on it!! If we were talking Toshiba, Sony, Hp etc this would be easy, but you just don't find IBMs in your high street stores.

Therefore, after spending ages on the phone getting "no, we don't keep them in stock" answers, can ANYBODY tell me if there is ANYWHERE in the UK where you can view the 14" (SXGA+) and 15" (SXGA+ or UXGA) T-series?? And I mean, ANYWHERE, as I would be prepared to travel.

Anyone from joe-public that is feeling helpful and charitable (or just generally sorry for me  ) that can do an A/B comparison, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

Ziyrnx,

I know exactly what you are going through! There is an IBM dealer on Tottingham court rd in Central London and they stock a good range of T42's. I saw my first comparison there and I immediately decided to go for the 14 inch model. In fact everytime I pop in (I work very close), I walk out thinking about whether I could live with an X40. I cant remember what their name is, but if you walk north up tottingham court road from Oxford st, it is about 100 metres up on the right. (they have a few thinkpads on display in the window so you should recognise it.). Let me know if you need any more info/help.

Regards,
Nick.
