Rapid Restore and 7 Gb hidden partition

Hi, everybody,

When I turned on my T40 for the first time, I was surprised to discover that I only had 33 Gb of total space in my HDD, even even though they said I would have 40 Gb HDD. Then I read that those 7 Gb were part of a hidden partition used to store preinstalled system files, IBM tools and so on.

My question is: Is it true that that 7 Gb space is also used by the IBM Rapid Restore PC software to store the backups that it is meant to produce?

Disk drives are measured in billions of bytes, so 40.000,000,000 bytes is really 37+ GB. Then 4 GB are used for the restore space. Welcome to the world of marketing.

The T40 has what is called the HPA or Hidden Protected Area for storing the factory recovery information. See following link.

All your backups are stored in your Windows Partition.
