T42 with XP Pro Won't Suspend

#1 Post by whizkid » Fri Aug 24, 2007 1:20 pm

After installing the latest Lenovo stuff, and all of Microsoft's suggested updates, the T42 my wife is using will not suspend. It says it is, but it hangs. Wireless Management is the suspected culprit. Any tips on fixing this?

Uninstall Access Connections and see if it suspends. If it does, then you have your answer.

Access Connections (any version from 2.7x up) does not cause a ThinkPad (T2x, T3x, T4x) to fail to suspend, assuming it is otherwise working properly.

You might want to check your Access Connections profiles to see if anything is forcing them to stay on.

Usually the device that will not suspend posts an error in the event log. Look there first.

I ran across this problem when an Epson C60 (Win XP) printer driver was installed on my Wife's T42. Uninstalling the driver solved the problem.

If you have recently installed a number of updates, and if Event Viewer is no help, then I suggest you boot into Windows SAFE MODE and use Windows System Restore to go to a restore point before you applied all the updates. Assuming this is successful, start applying your updates, a few at time, reboot, and check that Standby is still functioning. This is what I did to find the C60 printer driver problem. I used a restore point that was about 2 months old successfully (as I was out of town during that time).
