So the other night I was using my t42p and started to notice it was getting really hot. As in, even the touchpad was burning up. I picked up the laptop and put it to my ear and the fan was silent. I shut the computer down (was still working fine when I shut it down) to let it cool off for 30 minutes. When I turned it back on, after the thinkpad boot screen I get a black screen that says "Fan Error" then the computer shuts off. I have ordered a replacement fan already...what I'm worried about is whether or not I fried anything else inside. It seemed to be working fine when I turned it off. Will replacing just the fan fix the error?
MOD EDIT: Thread moved to proper forum, poster notified.
T42p Fan Error?
yeah replacing the fan will fix the error but did you ever look in there to see if the fan was clogged with dust or somthing? Most of the time you just have to get one of those air cans from Radio Shack or whatever and blow them out.
