Upgrading Access IBM (Install Won't Finish)

i was trying to upgrade my access ibm (update is at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-57404) and tried using both software installer which said it could not finish the install and manually installing it by double-clicking on the setup.exe file where it said that it could not be finished b/c a program that needed to be run couldn't be found.

do i need access connections to upgrade access ibm? that's the only thing i can think of that would be causing a problem (i uninstalled connections b/c someone on the forum said it would ease my network connectivity issues). thanks

In similar situations like this with IBM updates I had success after uninstalling the old version first.
