Removing a smoke smell

#1 Post by gzaector » Fri Oct 29, 2004 9:03 pm

Well after having a lot of problems with my old T22(2647-4EU), I found a new one on ebay(2647-8EU, 435 bucks, the seller said it was flawless, the screen could use a really good cleaning and the case is a bit scratched up, but im not to worried about that). Well anyways it came today and I noticed it has a sort of smokey smell to it, which I am really not to fond of. Is there anyway to clean off the case or the inside of the machine t oget rid of this smell?

Thanks.

I would recommend you remove the battery first, and make sure it is not plugged in, but...

You can try using a good quality glass cleaner like Windex (no foams or creams, please!) and clean all the surfaces of the laptop. Use a soft cloth or good quality disposable wipes for rubbing so you don't get too much lint.

Don't press hard on the LCD!!!!!

Let the computer dry off really well before you try to use it.

Hope this helps.

We got a TV from a smoker and it STANK bad, and had a yellow orange brown film over the whole thing. It was disgusting. Whenever the TV was on for a while, it would start to smell, because it would warm up.

We scrubbed the whole thing with clorox bleach wipes, though I probably wouldnt try that on a thinkpad.

You're welcome. for the completely useless post... :P

I found the perfect cleaner for smoker/pc cleaning. Forumla 409 Citrus. It cuts through that sticky crap and the citrus covers the smell up pretty well.
