USB external hard drive encryption using FFE on T42p

#1 Post by rssb » Mon Sep 03, 2007 4:00 pm

There used to be an option to encrypt files and folders with the original IBM client security software. Currently I am currently having the version 8.00.0114.00. Not sure if the FFE ( File and folder encryption) was removed in some version.

Can someone suggest, what is a best way to encrypt / protect data on an external USB drive.

Thank you.

I use truecrypt to encrypt the contents of my USB since it's easy to use, free and doesn't require that the computer have truecrypt installed so easy to use the USB stick on any computer and still be able to read the encrypted contents using a password.

When i insert the USB stick a new volume is available which is the unencrypted part of the USB stick. The autorun menu show me an option to mount truecrypt volume and if i select that option i'm prompted for a password and another volume is available which is the encrypted part of the USB stick. I can also rightclick the volume under my computer to select mount and dismount.

I guess there are many other options as well that might be better, but truecrypt works pretty good and it's free and easy to use.

I think i once read that the file and folder encryption been removed from the IBM client security software, but not sure what verison and if i remember correctly since i don't use it.
