T43 WLAN problems :-(

#1 Post by Senser » Sat Sep 08, 2007 9:47 am

Since a few days I'm having problems with Wifi connections on my T43.

I can no longer connect to my accesspoint when WEP is enabled. I used Thinkvantage System Update to update my Wifi drivers and Thinkvantage Access Connections but no solution. I also completely removed Thinkvantage Access Connections and the Intel Proset software but that doesn't work either. I downloaded and installed several different versions of the Intel PROset and ThinkVantage Access Connections software, but the problem remains.

The weird thing is I can 'see' several Wifi networks to connect to (including my own) but I simply cannot connect when WEP is enabled. Also ThinkVantage keeps telling me my wireless NIC is turned off and cannot seem to turn it on. With my PDA I can connect to my AP just fine, also with WEP enabled.

Suggestions are highly appreciated!

You might be affected by the following. But even if not, repair the Winsock and run the Networks Diagnostic tool.

Intel wireless adapters have limited connection methods and cannot be controlled via Fn + F5 - ThinkPad

How to recover from Winsock2 Corruption

Using the Network Diagnostics Tool

You also may be able to use Windows System Restore to go back to a time when your system was working. I recommend using System Restore from Windows SAFE MODE (F8 at beginning of boot sequence). System Restore is located in Windows Help and Support.

Thanks for your reply!

I tried your suggestions, no solution and after an extra few hours of trying I decided to do a reinstall. After reinstallation wifi worked again. I did a system update via Thinkvantage and after downloading new Intel Pro drivers (11.01.0_7KWC27WW) the problem came back.

I'm not happy with the stability of Lenovo updates at all.. :(

Luckely I found an image I created a few months ago, so I could finally restored the image.

I don't think the problem is with the updates themselves, but rather with System Update that cannot update the drivers properly. I always do all my updates manually, I do not have these types of problems.

It is known that certain drivers and software must be installed in a certain order to work. Anytime you upgrade your wireless driver, you must uninstall Access Connections first and reboot. I also recommend uninstalling your old wireless driver before installing the new one. After rebooting, you can reinstall Access Connections.
