Haha... That's funny. I was thinking, what if you sliced across your finger with a knife or something, and it healed with a scar of a line across your finger. That would suck if it stopped working, and you only have that finger stored in the database. I guess it's all password bypassable anyway...

I still think the fingerscanner is more novelty than anything else...

Seems cool though. I'd take one on mine.

Plinkerton,

You can scan multiple fingers. So, make sure you keep the knife wound confined to only a couple fingers!

Glad to hear it. Keep us up to date as you've used it more, I'm curious how the placement works out and how often the scanner needs cleaning...

What if the HD is extracted and used in another computer without the fingerprint protection? Can the information be read then?

Well I guess the finger print reader working well is good news if I ever see the T42 I ordered on 10/6! The delivery date has been all over the map, the latest I was quoted is 11/15. The other day it dropped to 11/9 so I called IBM to see what the real story is. I was told in reality it will probably be at least another two weeks, if this is true or not I don't know.
I'm waiting though, wish I were a more patient person!

Have a question for you T42s Finger Scanner experts...

Will a hard disk from T40 inserted into the T42s (Finger Scanner Model) work?

I need to be able to interchange T40 hard drive into T42s and make it work, otherwise i will buy just a regular T42 model instead...

thank you in advance for your advice!
