Just Purchased T42 on Ebay

#1 Post by songman » Mon Nov 01, 2004 6:34 pm

Hi!
I'm new to the forum and new to IBM. I just sold a Gateway and
purchased T42 on Ebay.
It's got 1.7 processor, 40 gig HD, 512 Ram and addition al 512 as bonus making it total of 1024 ram. I paid $1510 which includes delivery.

I have few guestion;
1. Is this a good buy? I mean for the price that I paid.

2. THis laptop is suppose to be factory sealed. Is there somthing I need to look for when it arrives?

3. I'm guessing that 512 monus ram is not an IBM product. Is that going to be a problem using it in lieu of 512 IBM ram which is already installed?

4. IT is suppose to have 3 year warrenty. How do I register the warrenty?

5. IS there an accesory that I must have for Think pad?

THank you :D

It sonds like a great buy if it's factory sealed. How much dedicated video ram does it have? Also, what's the screen? SXGA+? UXGA? etc. etc.

If it's factory sealed, I guess that would mean it comes in a factory sealed box, with the IBM tape on it, so I would look for that. Also, if it's supposed to be brand new, it should boot up into a registration page and all that stuff. Do you know the model number? I have one with the same specs as yours, with a SXGA+ screen, and 64 vid ram, Radeon 9600. Mine is called the 2378-FVU. Mine actually only came with 256 RAM and I added 512 from Crucial.com. You should have no problem with a different brand of ram.

The accessory that I use most, and would be stuck without is a good sleeve. I use a Booq PowerSleeve14 which should fit yours fine if it's the 14.1 inch screen.

Not sure about the warranty.

Congrats. I love mine.

THanks for the info.
The seller has over 900 feedback with 99% satisfaction. HE has been member since 1998. I feel pretty secure about this buy. BUt again, yOu never know.

I don't know the exact model. IT has 32 mb video card. XGA screen.

I guess I didn't get a bad deal than.

DOes anyone know more about 3 year warrenty? how it can be transferred or registered?

THanks

it's cost me $2000 include shipping fee to California. talking of recovery

cd, we can not erase recovery software on the hard dirve because when

we use recovery cd( for T42), the entire hard drive will be recovered.

But it is better than nothing, if you have recovery cd you can easily

recover your system when you change a new hard drive.
