Memory installation help on T43

#1 Post by nctalkinghead » Sun Sep 16, 2007 12:35 pm

I am trying to install a 1gb memory stick in my T43. It's going in the slot under the keyboard. I have downloaded the HMM and must be to dumb to understand how to remove the keyboard to access the memory slot. From the diagram in the HMM it looks as if I need to push "something" around the off/on button...after I have removed 4 screws from the bottom of the TP.

I can unscrew with the best of them, but getting the keyboard off is giving me great pains of frustration! Anybody who can explain this to me better than the HMM, please help!

Thanks.

mainly you have to apply pressure upwards IE keyboard towards the LCD.. the on/off area is an area where you can apply pressure without pushing on keys. Pushing on the keys would risk popping one off.

the trick is to apply enough pressure on the keyboard towards the LCD so you can release the notches on the keyboard near the palmrest (couple of them from what i remember, below CTRL, LEFT ALT&SPACE, RIGHT ALT, DOWN button)

hope that helps. goodluck

.. there are several movies at IBM's site showing how to do this; see Movie matrices - Notebooks: Hardware removal and installation - ThinkPad T40/p, T41/p, T42/p, T43/p - go to the Keyboard and/or Memory section. Surely your can do it - good luck! :thumbs-UP:

Best regards,

Use one hand to push the power button area (and consequently the whole keyboard) away from the palmrest. At the same time, use the other hand to stick a "minus" type screwdriver into the gap between the keyboard and the palmrest, and rotate the screwdriver to lift the keyboard. Finally, unplug the keyboard cable from the motherboard.
