annoying pixel problem

#1 Post by zzyss » Tue Nov 02, 2004 3:07 am

Hi, I have a ThinkPad T40 that's about 1 year + 3 months old. This model has the 1400x1050 screen, and I have this really annoying problem, where one pixel will go bright, then dark, then a few days later they're OK again. A few days later, another totally different pixel will do the same thing. So far, it's happened about half a dozen times, but I can't really claim on the warranty, because they're not all dead at the same time, nor do they stay dead. But its [censored] annoying.

Does anybody else experience this problem? Is it common?

Press the middle ultranav (mouse) button and it'll go away. It's a software bug with the ultranav driver.

I'm sorry you had to live with it for over a year before finding out! I posted about it the first day I got my laptop and someone here told me about it.

Next time it happens, you'll note that your mouse cursor actually changes to the scroll indicator if you mouse over the pixel just right :)

And yes, it's a VERY common thing. I have no idea why it happens or why it hasn't been fixed.

But it feels good to know you're not dealing with dead pixels, right? :D

It does!
Normally the white ghost appears when I watch movies, but I got used to it after I saw him appear on different places all the time.

The first time I rebooted in panic, though. It was a relief that he was gone afterwards...

clicking the middle button is a little easier. Thanks for pointing this out, I never got it by myself... :)
