Monitoring GPU temperature

#1 Post by Rockhine » Fri Sep 21, 2007 7:02 am

Does anyone know any free software to monitor the temperature of a T42?

hi,

you can use TP Fan Control Utility to measure temperature and also control the fan operation of Thinkpad.

Use the "Notebook Hardware Control" program"

#3 Post by Johan » Fri Sep 21, 2007 9:21 am

... another option is to use the very good and very user-friendly (and completely free!) program: Notebook Hardware Control - it is very easy to use, and allow you to undervolt the CPU, downclock the GPU, control the fan, and monitor both CPU, GPU, fan etc etc. Highly recommended! :-)

Best regards,

Johan

Ooh, yes you are indeed able to monitor GPU temperature using NHC: Right-click on the HNC-icon in the taskbar, choose "Show", go to the ACPI tab, choose "Show ACPI Control System details", and there you go! :thumbs-UP:

For this to work you may need to install the ACPI control; if you already haven't done that, you may refer to page 4 of the above thread and see my post of Mon Jul 30, 2007 6:46 am - that explains all you need to do.

Best regards,

Johan

RM Clock Utility is alternative option to undervolt as well as monitor the CPU temp.
1. T43 2668-B97 14" SXGA+ 1.5G RAM 9cells
2. X60s 1703-CA3 powerful

ATITool will also show GPU temperature!

#7 Post by Johan » Sun Sep 23, 2007 5:51 am

It is very unfortunate, but I don't know how to avoid it: My mind is getting slower and starts to forget things! :-( Because of this, oh well, I first now came to think of another utility which will show GPU temperatures (by the way, will RM Clock also show GPU temp.?); this other utility being: ATITool which - as the name indicates - works for (certain) ATI grahic cards. Try that one! :-)

Johan

Great information. Thank you. I installed the NHC utility in the thread that you referred me to and can now monitor the GPU temperature. :)

The main reason for wanting to monitor temperatures is that I recently replaced the fan and heat sink module myself and want to make sure that the temperatures stay within an acceptable range. (I was uncertain whether I applied the thermal paste correctly)

I will need to read much more information prior to changing NHC fan control settings, etc.

Thank you once again. :)
