t42 and r52 motherboards compatible?

#1 Post by cirthix » Sun Sep 23, 2007 4:21 am

They appear to be compatible by the pictures in the service manual.

I'm asking because I have an extra t42 (overclocked, but that's for another thread ;)) motherboard and can get an r52 with a broken motherboard for cheap.

thanks!

T41, T42, R50 and ATI-based R51's all used very similar motherboards - some of the R-series had Firewire ports. I'm not sure if any motherboard part numbers actually overlapped, but you can check the HMM or IBM or Lenovo for that.

T40's are close, too, but didn't have the APS sensor and ran memory at a slightly slower speed.

They all certainly used the same BIOS and EC.

The T43 and ATI-based R52's also overlapped the same way.

That being said, some have retrofitted T43 motherboards to T40 cases, so you're swap may very well be doable.

Perhaps others can comment. Please let us know how it turns out.

I know that all the t40/41/42/43 boards are interchangeable, and if you say that the t43 and r52 are interchangeable as well, that means that the t42 and r52 must also be interchangeable.

awesome :D

I think the firewire is on all T4x/R5x boards, you just need the sub card and connector to make it work. There is no place for the connector on the T4x series but there was on some R5x series.
