Help getting IBM mini pci a/b/g card working on T30
Hello,
I am trying to get the IBM Atheros chipset wireless a/b/g mini pci card to work on my T30. I've done the no-1802 patch which lets the computer start, albeit with a notice of duplicate ethernet devices and loss of quickboot. However, I cannot get the device to work. Windows XP Pro SP2 keeps reporting Code 10, device failed.
I have the latest IBM drivers (even tried the new Atheros chipset drivers from the HP website), access connections, and hotkey software. I thought the problem might be due to an irq conflict, so I changed the assignable irq's in the bios from 11 to automatic. I still get the Code 10 error in the device manager. I've uninstalled and added new hardware from the control panel too. At this point, I am at a loss for what to do and about to give up. Any thoughts? I would really like a 802.11a internal solution for my trusty T30.
Thanks.

it may be a hardware problem - when i couldn't get mine working i finally used ibm install instructions to peek inside and one of the connectors had broken loose from the circuit board! this after having ibm auth service center put it in ...
also check that you are using right drivers, certainly not the cisco ones for example, like i was (DUH).
also it bears mentioning that once your tcp/ip gets really screwed up, somtimes only an xp pro re-format (its easier with ibm's hidden partition) may be only option to fix it, unless you're into brain surgery. try this first though, a simple reset:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
just remember to download all ibm updates and store somewhere other than c:/ drive, like a cdrw or dvdr. i've reformat non-ibm desktop from scratch and absolutely, having the recovery stuff onboard makes it tons easier and fraction of time (hours rather than days)

I had a code 10 in a Thinkpad T22 last week but it was for the CDRW in it. The person who brought it in to me for me to fix had installed and then uninstalled EZ-CD Creator. I was lucky to find a page on the internet that explained my problem and had me search and edit my registery. I'd say that something similar is going on with your machine. Search the internet for the Code 10 error and the mini-pci card (google is a good place to start). I suspect that the drivers used for the previous mini-pci card you had in your thinkpad wrote to the registery and that has to be cleared out before it can be identified by windows. Anyway, good luck!
Just thought of another possible solution....have you updated your BIOS to the latest?
