T40 Security Chip 4 beeps?

#1 Post by chosos » Wed Oct 03, 2007 10:37 am

Hi.

I bought a "working" T40 that is getting the 4 sets of 4 beeps. Thinking the chip was missing / disconnected - I took it entirely apart and the security chip is present.

Is there anything I can do to try and "reset" the chip? Is there anything I can do to bypass it? I dont care if I have to jump the board or voltmod something to short the chip - I just need the laptop working without replacing the motherboard.

Did the machine ever work for you? I assume you are talking about the chip in the little daughter card on the bottom of the MB. If so, there is no way to bypass it.

No dual core CPU. You can use any dothan or banias.

Dragging up an old thread...

Is the security chip removable w/o solder like in the A3x? If so, is it possible the 4x4 beeps is caused by it falling off or needing to be replaced? If so, can I take the security chip from a A31 and slap it in the T40?

Yes you can remove it, but it is married to the board. You can not move it from one machine to another.
