T42 wireless access point - recommendations

#1 Post by quarx » Thu Nov 04, 2004 6:39 pm

Hi folks !

Last friday I ordered my first ThinkPad T42 - 2373CVG via a student account. Looks like it will take 1-2 weeks till joy begins. Till then I'm killing time by checking for all the necessary equipment I will need besides (rest of the time browsing this great forum and/or praying not to get any stuck pixels ).
So for that, I'm currently searching for an wlan access point and am wonderding if you can give me any suggestions. My Router is a Netgear FR114P and i've currently an eye on th Netgear ME103 http://www.netgear.com/products/details/ME103.php. But I would preffer an AP which supports the 802.11g standard fully. Also I need VPN support.

thanks for your comments and greez,
quarx

Linksys wrt54g or wrt54gs are great routers. Spend $20 on the sveasoft beta firmware and you'll be very happy. I have no complaints, but then again I never have used the wireless yet but i only hear good stuff about that. The firmware adds so much stuff to the router its amazing. www.sveasoft.com for the firmware info.

I use the WRT54GS with the stock firmware, thru wifi every day, all day long. It's great and has NEVER given me any problems yet. It's never dropped out, or had a slow connection. it's been 100% every single day, etc. So, I'd recommend it from personal use.
