Extending Warrenty

Hi.
I am negotiating for NEW T42 with local person. THis comp has 1 year warrenty. Is it possible to purchase a extended warrenty through IBM or other source?

Are you saying that the T42 you're considering purchasing has only a one year IBM warranty, or the only warranty is provided by the seller?

If the unit has an IBM warranty, it can be extended or upgraded at any time during the warranty period, up to 5 years of onsite coverage. Provided the unit is NOT an IBM refurbished unit.

If the warranty is only provided by the seller and the unit doesn't have an IBM warranty for some reason, I would have serious concerns about buying the unit.

THis computer has 1 year IBM warrenty. I thought it was bit short, so I wanted to know if I can extend the warrenty after purchasing the unit.

WHat is the cost for extending 1 year warrenty fo 3 year???

ALso, How much less should a T42 cost for having only 1 year versus 3 year warrenty? THis would help me with the negotiation.

Sounds like a 2378-DYU... Look it up on ibm.com or other 3rd party resellers (buy.com, newegg, etc)

2378-DYU is 2999$ on IBM's site

Bill here usually sells for 8%-11% less than retail

So around 2700$ would be a good price...

Basic 3 year depot repair warranty, 132$

Hey Songman!

Welcome to the TP forum! I would definitely check with Bill, the guy who runs this forum. He usually has some smoking deals and is really good about making sure you get what you want. I got mine from him and could not be happier, great price and service. Oh yeah, get the three year warranty.

(If you buy used, make sure there are no issues like dead/stuck pixles etc...)
