T-42 battery latches

#1 Post by kevinh » Fri Nov 05, 2004 3:56 pm

First, I apologize if this has been covered before. I tried searching the archives, but I got hundreds of hits on batteries, and couldn't face the daunting task of wading through all of them.

The question: Can anyone tell me why some T-42s have one battery latch and some have two? The 15" 2378-FZU (Think Express) I just received has only one, yet a 14.1" 2373-5TU I looked at had two. Thanks.

You just answered your own question. The 15" t42s have 1 latch, the 14'"s have 2 :)

IBM has refined/modified/cheaped out the design of the newer 15" models as opposed to the 14"s. Among the many changes in the new 15" chassis design is the use of 3 lengths of screws (4 on the 14") and 3 keyboard screws (4 on 14). It doesn't really make a big difference.
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
