T41p GPU running at 120°C?
Hi everyone,
I just replaced the fan on my T41p and TPFanControl v0.18 is scaring me... The CPU temperatures seem fine, idling at about 40°C and crunching stuff at a little above 60°C. The GPU, however, is idling at 50-60°C.
More alarmingly, I just opened World of Warcraft, for approximately 2 minutes on minimal settings (including minimal resolution), and watched the GPU meter rise to 120°C. That's not right... Is it?

lol way to harm your poor pet.ulrich.von.lich wrote:...or put it on your cat or something. 120C would be unbearably hot.
my GPU runs at 49C idle, then under full load goes up to 90c, maybe it will fry, fan assembly long properly installed =/ HOT.

Thanks for the responses, guys.
I think that 120°C reading had to be false. I tried it again under the same "test environment" and the GPU worked at 70-80°C on Power saver and 80-90°C on High performance (Vista power settings).
Just in case, though, do you all think it would be a good idea to take the heatsink off again and clean all the contact surfaces? Also, should I apply thermal grease between the GPU and pink thermal pad? I only used some on the CPU.
By the way, the heatsink is the definitely the correct one for the system, as that part was not replaced. It is the Fan Assembly Long M10 with the pink thermal pad. All I replaced was the white metal part with the fan.
I mean that literally, as in I took apart the assembly. The replacement did come out of a Fan Assembly Short as opposed to another Long M10, but that part seemed identical on both assemblies.
