T41p and directx/opengl on one drivers?

#1 Post by venro » Sat Oct 13, 2007 6:43 am

Hi

I'm thinking of buying T41p for good price :)

When I had T40p with FireGL 64MB it wasn't very good.
Newest drivers from ibm was giving me the ability to play directx games, but opengl was disabled (there weren't any chance to play, without 3d acceleration). With old drivers dedicated for CAD apps opengl works perfectly, but no directx...

For T41p owners: does this model have the same problem? Or the newest driver give both 3d acceleration?
Eg. this game http://surfnet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourc ... -win32.exe .

That is a weird problem. I can play games like GTA: San Andreas, Trackmania Nations and UT2004 with no problem on my T40. I use the drivers from the IBM ThinkPad support site.

Graphics card is an ATi Radeon Mobility 7500 (32MB)
Lenovo ThinkPad T410

Yes, that's because it's FireGL. T40s have mobile version without that.

The standard ATI catalyst drivers certainly support both and they run fine on a T4X machine.

No, they don't.
The last two versions that Lenovo offered for download have OpenGL hardware support DISABLED, only Microsoft OpenGL software emulation is included (which is worthless).

You have to use 2 versions back in the Lenovo download archive. DirectX is old, but OpenGL still works.

Unfortunately, I have asked Lenovo support several times why they don't test/fix/support their drivers before offering them for download, or if they could support their machines with up-to-date software. Nope...

LENOVO SUPPORT AND QUALITY IS BECOMING MORE OR LESS F**** useless.

My company has moved on and beginning next year we all will be getting HP notebooks. So much for Thinkpads... and their great Lenovo blogs (useless tapping their own shoulder)

Download http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/ and lastest
catalyst drivers 7.10. follow instructions on how to mod the drivers so they work with your T41p. Install.

Am using catalyst 7.10 atm and they work great.

That's why I said "The standard catalyst drivers. " Not the Lenovo repackaged versions, the actual ones you get from ATI.

thanks, I always thought that Lenovo is taking the latest ATI drivers, put their badge on it and that's it.

[censored]... the ATI standard package refuses to run on my current Radeon 9000. Only 9600 and up is supported...
I am having a bad day today...
