Salvage Serial Number

#1 Post by somefun » Sat Oct 13, 2007 11:29 am

I just purchased a used T41P (2373GEU) that shows "SALVAGE" for the serial number under "System Information" in the "Access IBM" program. I've heard of salvage titles for totaled vehicles. Is this the same sort of thing?

Thanks!
Curt

It just means that some guy typed that in. It can be changed using the IBM maintenance diskette. Search this forum to find where to get one.

Thats right. Whoever sold it to you changed the serial number using the mentioned diskette or replaced the system board.

Thanks, Guys,

I've been doing some research on the subject in the Forums since I recieved the first response. I'm trying to figure out how to run the software without a floppy -- I've seen a few references to using a usb memory stick (still researching). Also, I've email the person I purchased the T41 from and he said it was a factory refurb, and he'd try to get the serial number for me. It seems to me that IBM would have already done that. Anyway, I love the laptop; it''s size, screen resolution, performance, etc., so I'm satisfied! Thanks for your help everyone!
