Dropped my T42
Dropped my T42
Dear members,
First of all, sorry for my bad english. I'm from Holland and try to type the best english I can.
Last week my T42 dropped from about 1 meter high (3 ft.). He felt exacly on the corner where the HD is plugged in. But he was still working after the dropdown (good IBM). With the reboot he keep hanging at a black screen (bad IBM).
So my brother formate my laptop (that also went with some problems he said) but it worked after all. Yesterday evening I was working on my T42 en suddenly he start to get slow. My idea was to reboot him so some problems will resolved. With the reboot I got the IBM and Windows screen. But after that I got a blue screen with the message that there has been an error so I have to reboot my T42. I did what 'mister T42' was telling me. To make the problem even look bigger my HD start to tick.
- My question is. Is it possible that my HD broke.
- I already found the Hitachi Travelstar 7200 rpm 60gb. Is that a good replacement?
I hope you understad my problem and can help me with it.

IBM T42
It is probably (and hopefully) the hard drive causing your problem. Try running Hitachi Drive Fitness Test to check out your hard drive.
The Hitachi you found should be an excellent replacement if it is a PATA laptop drive (SATA won't work).

Like others say, it is most likely a bad hard drive, considering other damages that could have occured (cracked lcd etc)
How are you so sure its a 'he' ??
