PCMCIA adapter, wireless and graphic problem... (T43)

#1 Post by ptaszniki31 » Tue Oct 23, 2007 10:27 pm

Hi,
I'm trying to resolve this problem for like a month or so...pcmcia adapter and wireless adapter are not working on my T43...system is actually "seeing" them, but there's a code 10 conflict. Anyway when I'm starting my T43 there's a PCI conflict on a motherboard. I know it's my graphic card, pcmcia adapter and wireless adapter. Sometimes they work, but my laptop is getting frozen in less than 5 minutes of working...I tried everything...loading the default setup in bios, restarting bios (by taking out battery), changing the settings in bios, upgrading bios, nothing helps ...please people, help me out...
Thank You!

A quick search on Google brought up the following:

Only One Function Is Enumerated and a Code 10 Error Occurs in Device Manager When You Insert a Multifunction PC Card into a PCMCIA Slot

Error Code 10 Returned on PCMCIA-GPIB Installation

WG511 Adapter with Error Code 10

I suggest you make sure you have the latest BIOS version, check the above links, and look on the manufacturer's website for support information and to get the latest drivers for your PCMCIA card(s).

Thank You sir, but I got SP2 installed on my T43, also the other links didn't help. The thing is that I don't really care about a pcmcia i only care about wireless adapter, but anyway, thanks for help.
Maybe some other help...
...please?

Try disabling some of your hardware either in Device Manager or in the BIOS, then reboot. For instance, you can disable your modem, your infrared port, bluetooth (if installed), ethernet LAN adapter, parallel port, serial port (COM port), or DVD/CD drive. You can even disable your PCMCIA slots in Device Manager. To get to Device Manager, go to: Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.

All these hardware devices use critical system resources such as IRQ's, DMA and I/O memory address's. If you free up these resources then reboot, Windows will reallocate the resources as needed for the hardware remaining. Hopefully you will no longer get a code 10 on your wireless adapter. Once you are successful, you can reenable the hardware you just disabled one at a time, then reboot. See if everything works, then reenable the next piece of hardware.

Thank You for another advice, but nothing works...
I disabled everything in Bios and Device Manager, and my wireless doesn't work anyway. When Windows is booting there's an error which says that device 04, and 05 are in pci conflict. I think that it is my wireless and pcmcia, and I need to enable one of them for other to work properly. I tried to enable pcmcia and after rebooting it's installing again...so I have no idea how to disable it, so it won't work for sure...
Thank you

Did your configuration ever work?

Is the T43 built in wireless working?

Yes it worked, but after I reinstall my xp it stopped working. One time I was trying to fix it by changing the settings in bios, I changed something, it worked for 2 times, and then I turn on my t43 and it stopped working...

I don't understand the question, but t43 has a wireless adapter built in. It's Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection.

Probably what happened is that you have a faulty driver install. There are a some ways to try and fix this.

1. You could use boot up into Rescue and Recovery and choose Restore Factory Contents. This will erase all existing data on your C:\ drive and reinstall Windows with all the IBM drivers and software.

2. You could boot up the Product Recovery Discs and Restore Factory Contents. This will erase all partitions and data on your hard drive and reinstall Rescue and Recovery with files to restore your C:\ partition. You will have to choose to Restore Factory Contents again to install Windows with all the IBM drivers and software. Normally you can create these discs yourself from the Access IBM folder or ThinkVantage folder off of Start > All Programs. If you cannot make a set for yourself at this point, you can order them from Lenovo for about $45 US.

3. You could reinstall Windows, make sure to cancel any found hardware wizards, then install the IBM drivers for your T43 following the installation instructions on the download page. You could try ThinkVantage System Update, but I do not have a lot of faith in it yet. You will need to reboot after installing the drivers.

Drivers and software - ThinkPad T43, T43p

4. You could do a repair install of Windows. See following page for info on this.
Langa Letter: XP's No-Reformat, Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option

5. You could go to Device Manager and uninstall all suspect devices (right-click on device to uninstall it). Reboot and see if it works. If not, uninstall all suspect devices again, then cancel any found hardware wizards on reboot. Next install the IBM drivers for your T43 then reboot again.

Setting BIOS to default settings would be the first step...and see where that gets you. If "nowhere" seems to be the given destination, read this and proceed with caution, and at own risk...

I'd go this route:

Borrow a "live" Linux CD and see whether devices are seen in it, and whether you can get wireless connectivity.

If yes, re-load the Windows from scratch, just save all the stuff that you need from your current settings.
If no, then you've gotten more than you've bargained for while playing with BIOS. Remove the backup (BIOS/CMOS) battery and re-install it after 20 minutes. The machine will be down to lowest BIOS (you'll need to update it) but whatever mess you've possibly made should be cleared as well.

CAVEAT: Make sure that you don't have a BIOS password before removing the backup battery, otherwise the machine will lock itself.

If this resolves the issue of conflict, proceed with re-installing the Windows.

If not, I don't have the answer for you, but someone else on this forum might.

Good luck.
