LCD 'tension' adjustment

#1 Post by sojourner » Wed Oct 24, 2007 6:14 pm

Would like to adjust the tension on the LCD (T41) so it opens and closes easier. Does anyone know if it is adjustable? If so, where is (are) the adjustment screw(s)?

There is no adjustment. Did it get stiffer recently, or has it always been the same?

richk, I have two T41's. The tension has not changed on either one but both are rather 'stiff' in my opinion, and one is 'stiffer' than the other. Would sure be nice to be able to adjust it!

I agree it's tough to find the balance b/t floppy and firm. I had a D*ll that drove me nuts with its floppy display--every time I bumped the table the screen would wobble for a few seconds (I've seen this w/ T*shibas, HPs, and Ac*rs as well). So for that I've always appreciated the 'firm' hinges on my IBM. Getting it open with one hand, however, is a horse of a different wheelbase . . .

Looking at a T41 lid I have sitting apart from a base, the hinges appear to be of a similar friction design like on the X2x (totally enclosed). However, the two T41s I have do not have the same problem with loose hinges as on the several X22 and X24 systems in my possession.
