graphics card problem and reflowing did not work

#1 Post by brik » Fri Oct 26, 2007 2:44 pm

Hi all,

I have a thinkpad T41p which was suffering from the famous "BGA crack" of the graphics card, It was exhibiting all the symptoms (screen going black when I move the laptop, etc.). I tried to fix the problem by applying the technique presented on youtube (reflowing with a heat gun), unfortunately, the state of the motherboard is gone worst and now it does not even power on.

My question is: did some have an idea about the problem, the cause and whether it is reparable?

A second questions: could some one tell me the motherboard models that are compatible with my T41p? sometimes I find offers on ebay but not exactly for the same model, e.g., does a T41 or T40 motherboard fit to my T41p?

Thanks in advance.

Nas

Nice try! But it doesn't sound like there's much you can do to salvage the board now. Any T40/p, T41/p, T42/p motherboard should fit just fine. The T40 board will have a slower memory bus than the T41 or T42 but otherwise it will work fine.

Good Luck,
Keith
