T42 wont power up even on ac-adapter

Hi guys!

I am having problems with powering up my ibm t42. The battery is empty, so I cant turn it up on battery power. But, when I connect it to the ac adapter, it wont power up either. The orange battery led blinks two times quickly and than nothing happens. The battery doesnt charge and no led is blinking.

Any tips on what could be wrong?

The adapter is working, I checked it on another laptop.

Now the orange light is blinking, like when the battery is on 5% power or less, blinking pretty quick, not like when its charging.

Try removing the battery then powering up off of the AC adapter.

I tried that. When the battery is in, the laptop starts powering on, the leds turn on like they should, but than it runs out of power. Even if the ac adapter is plugged in. When the battery is removed even that doesnt happen. Just a short orange blink of the battery led.

Sounds like the charging circuit is bad on the motherboard, or else there is a bad connection from the power input jack to the motherboard. Either way, likely you will have to replace your motherboard to get your T42 running again. If you do decide to go this route, check the FRU part number on your existing motherboard if you want an exact replacement (more important if you have a higher-end model).
