Nice disk for T40-T42s

#1 Post by FTC » Sun Oct 28, 2007 6:36 pm

Hi,

I want to share this information for whoever could be interested in it.

Just last week I upgraded the hard drive in my T42 with a new samsung 160GB spinpoint M5 HM160HC, and have to say I am quite impressed with it. This drive is a single platter one, which means it has a very high data density and in consequence a *very high* data transfer rate (does maintain a sustained rate of 70MB/sec downto 40MB/sec as per AIDA disk benchmark plugin). Besides, its noise is minimal and it also has very low power consumption figures. And the best part is that it is now a *very cheap* drive, selling here for around 80 euro, almost 20 cheaper than the standard price for hitachi's comparable. 5K160.

So even if "only" a 5400RPM drive, it does compete quite well with my other Hitachi 7K100... (seeks are faster in the later, but data transfer is slowlier).

I've used a couple of Samsung drives in my various laptops and they work well, plus they are indeed well priced compared to Hitachi/Seagate drives. :)

Hi,

Well, just saw there is also a PATA laptop 250Gigger : the Western Digital WD2500BEVE, so this could be also a good option to get huge storage in laptops.
