T41p - what fits in the chassis?

Hello people,

it's been a while since I last posted. And now I would be greatful for any advice.
I have a T41p, the issue with it is, as soon as the LCD cable is attached to the system, it won't boot up anymore. But when detaching the LCD assembly and running with an external display it works fine.

I took it in for service (authorized) to get an estimate, and they are telling me it's $1400 for a new motherboard.
Not worth it, but I thought I could try and source a new board myself even 2nd hand and try my luck.

Now my question to you guys is, what could I fit within the T41p chassis? without any additional mods, just "lift and shift", would it take a T42p's motherboard or better yet a T43? The LCD's are identical I believe.

T43 mobo would need some sort of mod I believe. All the other T4x boards will fit fine.

You could have to replace the LCD or just fix the VGA plug-board on the mainboard because your laptop works fine with an external monitor. Why dont you try LCD from another workingT4x or reinstall the plug-board before looking for spare mobo. Good luck!

Haha, I had made a nice little typo in my initial post, which I have corrected now, let it not reflect how I feel about the situation with my T41p

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll have a look at the VGA plug board first, and then take it from there. Looking at the motherboard options up to the T42p (which I also have), I don't see a huge benefit in upgrading, same bus/memory speeds, same FireGL chip, would only be upgrading the processor really.
