IBM T40 - Wireless problem - PCI resource conflict

#1 Post by oddb@ll » Mon Nov 05, 2007 6:47 pm

Hi.

I have a problem with an IBM T40 laptop.

I have tried putting in a wireless NIC and am confronted with a

PCI resource conflict

error on bootup.

I have tried a few different cards, Intel 2100, Intel 2200 and Intel 2915 (IBM and non IBM) and have had no luck.

Said cards work in other laptops but just not in this one.

I think its the mainboard but as its out of warranty, Id like to know if there are any other options besides a PCMCIA solution?

I have been reading about and the BIOS message suggests shuffling PCI cards about. As you can imagine there is only one miniPCI slot in the mainboard, so thats not an option.
Another is resetting ESCD updates via BIOS which I have seen on desktop BIOS but not enabled in this one.

Has anyone got any other ideas they care to share?

I assume you don't have any PC cards in the slots. If you do, remove them. The first thing I would do is to go into the BIOS and hit F9, to restore defaults.

Ensuring your BIOS and EC are up to date, then using F9 for defaults and F10 to save are definitely the first steps.

Also, make sure you don't have any PCMCIA (PC Cards) installed in either slot prior to installing the WiFi adatper.

If all else fails, I try to remove the CDC modem or BMDC modem/bluetooth, you have one or the other. It's only a couple of screws after you remove the keyboard (the top bezel does not need to be removed). The see if the WiFi adapter works.

Good luck, let us know what works, if anything.
