Are 1400x1050 and 1024x768 LCD panels on T43s the same?

Is there an actual difference in the LCDs on a T43 that puts out 1400x1050 versus one that puts out 1024x768?

I have an opportunity to pick up a well working T43p w/broken LCD (when it was working it put out 1400x1050). Fortunately, I have a good spare LCD from another T43 but that machine put out only 1024x768 resolution--so, I'm worried that this might cause a problem.

They are not the same - but they can be interchanged. I think you need to keep the cables that came with each LCD.

It is much easier to swap the entire lid assembly. Since the lid contains the cables and inverter, you just simply plug it in to the system board. If you have not done so, download the hardware maintenance manual from the Lenovo web site for step by step instructions.

Note that you will not really have a T43p when you are done. Regular 14.1” T43 models were made in both XGA (1024x768) and SXGA+ (1400x1050) resolution – the 14.1” T43p models only came in the higher SXGA+ resolution. This could effect resale value if you ever plan to sell it in the near future.

Of course you also get lower resolution. If you are use to the T43p, it will be a big change. Some people can use either. I have used T43p models for years, and am in the camp that can’t go back to just XGA – I spend too much time scrolling documents.

Physically, they will fit, but yes, you do have to swap cables along with the LCD when you replace the LCD in the T43P, not a hard process to do, just go to IBM support page and get the hardware maintenance manual for the T43P, shows the steps to take the thing apart.
