WPA and Different T models

#1 Post by jdhurst » Thu Nov 11, 2004 10:21 pm

I have a T41 where I installed the IBM 11 a/b/g card. I have a Netopia Router and set it for WPA-PSK / TKIP. Works a treat. Access Connections 3.52.

I have my old T23 back to re-image for the person I sold it to (bad hard drive). I did all the work with drivers and SP2. It has Access Connections 3.30. It has an ActionTec wireless card in it, and in Access Connections I cannot select WPA. It is greyed out and not selectable.

I have my old T30 (sold it to a client), and I am creating a new model for the client (SP2, new drivers, all new software upgrades). It has Access Connections 3.52. It has the IBM High Rate Wireless Adapter II in it, and in Access Connections I cannot select WPA. It is greyed out and not selectable.

Does anyone know if these older cards support WPA?

I called IBM, but after they could not solved the problem, they said it was software and chargeable, so they wanted off the phone.

Any information would be appreciated. ... JDHurst

Finding out whether these products support WPA seems like a matter of checking their support pages. Example: http://www.actiontec.com/support/wireless_adapters.html
If you can't get Access Connections to work at all (or work intermittently), might I suggest letting Windows do it? That's where I ended up since I found IBM's softwrae too flaky.

Thank you. I did check the IBM support pages for the products and came up dry (the support info talks about WEP but in the stuff I read, there was no mention of WPA). I did not find anything on the ActionTec pages either. But I will disable Access Connections and try it with Windows. I don't A/C flaky (it works really well on my T41), but I will try Windows on the T30.

If anyone has a T30 with the IBM High Rate Wireless card and Access Connections, perhaps you could post if the WPA option is available or greyed out.

Thanks, ... JDHurst

I could use some help here if anyone is able to.

With respect to the IBM T30 with IBM High Rate Wireless II mini PCI card, I uninstalled Access Connections, and found that I also had to uninstall / reinstall the Wireless Driver in order to let Windows manage the Wireless connections. I suspect that installing all the updates before installing SP2 may have had something to with this. In any event, I can manage the card with Windows and connect with WPA-PSK. Works.

So then I installed Access Connections 3.52, but still, when I try to create a wireless profile, the selection for WPA-PSK is greyed out and I cannot select it. I can only select WEP.

Does anyone know why? Can anyone suggest settings for the card that will allow it to be managed by Access Connections? Any ideas would be appreciated. ... JDHurst
