I bought 2 sticks of 512MB corsair value RAM and it is working great. Such a huge inprovement than when I had only stock 256MB RAM.

It is working well for me.

the speed doesn't really matter that much. its gonna run only as fast as the stick already in there. I got a stick of Kingston 512mb PC-2700 sodimm from Frys for $70 a while back and it works great. Just pick a good brand and go with that.
