Ultrabay slim battery shuts down laptop entirely?

#1 Post by davidspalding » Tue Nov 13, 2007 2:50 pm

Something very odd happened Sunday. My T43 booted up fine with a fully-charged 6-cell main and a fully-charged Ultrabay slim battery (about 2 years old, with 30% capacity left). It got to the Windows desktop, then powered off, boom! Attempts to reboot resulted in power on for 5 seconds, then off, boom (again). Removing the Ultrabay battery, it could boot up. The minute I put it back in, power died. I tried this both in Windows, and also at the BIOS screen.

I thought the battery somehow magically got shorted out while it was in the Thinkpad, in my messenger bag, in the car. But that's ridiculously unlikely.

When I got home, I tried this with 2 newer Ultrabay batteries, they worked fine. I started charging, then unplugged and put in the 2 year old battery, all worked fine.

Anyone EVER seen this bizarre behavior before??

Is your UltraBay battery an original OEM IBM or an Fake one made in china ?

The Fake ones aren't as good as original IBM.

If it is an original IBM, i would send IBM an e-mail, explain this question and look what they can do.

IBM OEM ... bought in 2005. On subsequent tests, I couldn't repeat, so I'm not sure what there is to fix. Quite bizarre. I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced it.
