IBM Mouse doesn't work on T40

#1 Post by Kike G. » Wed Nov 14, 2007 10:41 am

Hi,

I have an IBM optical mouse for USB port, model MO32BO (IBM FRU pin 24P0497). It does work fine with my 600E, but I can't make it work with my T40 (both systems running on Win XP Pro). In T40 appears this message whenever I connect it:

"! USB Device Not Recognized".

What do you think might be happening and how can I solve this issue?

Thanks,
Enrique

With the mouse plugged in, start Windows Update (from Internet Explorer, look under Tools for Windows Update) and choose Custom. See if any drivers for your mouse show up under Hardware. Alternatively, you could launch the Add Hardware wizard and let it search online for the drivers. You will find that in Control Panel.

Hi, DKB,

It didn't work. I did what you said and it didn't work.

Any other ideas? :(

Are you connecting the mouse to the T40's USB ports directly, or through something else?

Have you connected other USB devices to the ports (flash drive, keyboard, web cam, MP3 player) and got them to work?
2668-75U T43, 2GB RAM, 2nd hand NMB kybd, Dock II, spare Mini-Dock, and spare Port Replicators. Wacom BT tablet. Ultrabay 2nd HDD.
2672-KBU X32, 1.5GB RAM, 7200 rpm TravelStar HDD.

Hi, David,

Yes, I'm connecting the mouse directly to USB ports (I've tried both, obviously one a time.

Yes, I've connected some other devices to each of those USB ports, such as flash drives, iPod, Bluetooth adapter... all of them work just fine with the USB ports.

What do you think might be happening?

Best regards,
Enrique

I have an IBM wired mouse model MO09BO, which I use occasionally. It has a lighted blue joystick-type button instead of a scroll wheel. It seems to work just fine in either USB port on my T41p. The button works to scroll horizontally and vertically. I just looked in my Control Panel, System Device Manager, and clicked on the plus sign next to 'mice and other pointing devices'.
There is an entry for Thinkpad UltraNav Pointing Device, and a separate entry for 'HID-compliant mouse".

For that second entry, it apparently uses a driver from Microsoft, dated 7/1/2001, version 5.1.2600.0.
So that makes me think that it found a microsoft driver when I first plugged it in, and I never had to use the IBM software that came with the mouse. There are two files in C:windows\system32\drivers directory:
one is mouclass.sys version 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158
and the other is mouhid.sys version 5.1.2600.0 (XPClient010817-1148)

Meanwhile, I noticed that in my Control Panel there is an entry for Mouse, and clicking on that reveals that I have Lenovo Mouse Suite version 5.03.2. I don't think I have ever used it to customize the mouse.
But I must have downloaded it from Lenovo.

So, perhaps what you can do is uninstall the mouse, then start over to see if plug and play works.
600e (needs a replacement HD)
T20 (2647-44U, needs a win98 install disk to rebuild vmm32.vxd)
T23 (2647-HNU, pulsing fan, won't boot)
T41p (2373-GEU, works perfectly)
T61 (7658-CTO, works perfectly)

Hi, acz,

I'm afraid to do that. Are you sure that if I uninstall the mouse it will reinstall itself?
