new T40 with int 811b b but have a PMCIA card for b/g-advice

#1 Post by merbel » Fri Nov 12, 2004 8:28 pm

I just purchased a T40 laptop that has an internal b wireless but have an external PMCIA I have used in other IBM laptops. I have a home wirelss set up with b/g.
Can anyone advice me how to deactivate the b and configure for use the external g?
Thanks in advance

Why so complicated? Sell your pcmcia at Ebay and buy IBM´s a/b/g-wlan card for 65 $

Deactivate the internal wireless card in Device Manager and then install the PCMCIA card. Unless you're transferring large files over the wireless network, I'd just stick with the "b" card for surfing!

Thanks for the feedback.
I do not typically download large files, so may just use bhe internal b with the option of using my PMCIA 11/a/b/g

I have a Linksys A/B/G card that I bought for my T22. When IBM provided the T40 I ended up setting the machine up to use both of them in my profiles. Other than when I want to try and transfer files over my home network, the B card is great for surfing using my Cable/Wireless network. When I travel and think I will be accessing a corporate network to transfer files, the card goes along just in case.
