T41 Restore to Factory... Closed

#1 Post by colfrank » Mon Nov 19, 2007 7:46 pm

I did a full Restore all 6 CD's and all went fine.
On Re-Booting I am still in the "Rescue and Recovery" screens, a couple of re-boots and still there.
So how do I progress to boot to Windows ?

Figured it out..... you get the same screens, except that you run them again to do the ACTUAL Restore to the HD.

The 6 CD restore just builds the recovery partition. You still have to install XP. There should be an option off of the R&R screen to restore the system.

Like Harry said. So far you have recreated the restore partition on the hard drive. Now you need to restore windows from the restore partition. Go into rescue and recovery and tell it to restore to factory contents. It will take a few hours and will reboot a few times. Let it go until it presents you with a windows desktop without any other processes running

Yep, that's how it works.

Don't forget to change the BIOS setting to have the Hard Disk as the default boot device (you should have set it so that the CD is the default boot device when you were restoring the recovery partition off the CDs.).

Also, remember, it is going to reboot a couple of times and take around 20-30 mins unattended. Go make yourself a cup of coffee and watch TV.
