Swapping/Remapping Fn & Ctrl Keys -- Anyone tried it?

#1 Post by Matt » Fri May 28, 2004 4:05 am

From the "Did Your T42 or T42P Ship?" thread:
I got the 2378-FVU, the 14.1" 9600 model, the screen size is perfect for me. The only thing I don't like is that the Fn and Control keys are switched around, I keep pressing Fn instead of Control.
I agree that IBM's choice here is annoying. Has anyone tried remapping these keys in software and switching the physical keys?

I don't think you can. You get used to it in a day or so anyway.

Actually, it may be possible. xev in Linux shows keypress events when you press Fn. However, I'm not sure what would happen if you press Fn+F4, since that shows up as an ACPI suspend button press. Either way, I agree with Nabeel that you get used to it. My old Dell had CTRL on the left too, but I got used to it pretty quickly.
