Weird problems with the LCD monitor

#1 Post by madboyv1 » Sat Nov 24, 2007 2:04 am

I was on a T43p model 2669-W8N. It is about 3 years old and just recently two odd things have started happening.

First, the screen will Tint red slightly, eventually readjusting back to the base tint (none). I think it may be the Back light going, but I am not sure.

Secondly, the screen randomly cuts off, and cannot be turn back on unless the lid is closed and opened again, usually cutting off again in only a matter of time. An External monitor however works just fine.

Any idea's?

What you describe is a failing back light. I would call Lenovo for a replacement assuming you still have any warranty remaining.

in order to protect the backlight not to emit too much,
i always press Fn+F3 to turn off the screen when i am away for while.

I figured it was the backlight. Any idea what is causing the random screen turning off though? I checked to see if it was just on without the backlight, but the screen is completely turned off. I have also turned off anything that would turn off the LCD screen, but it still turns of rrandomly.

Could also be the motherboard.

Suprisingly I have recently seen another forum member's T43p with similar problems. I replaced both the LCD AND the motherboard and everything is working nicely again.

If your T43p is still covered by the warranty I would suggest making a call.

Code: Select all

Any idea what is causing the random screen turning off though?
Might be that your CCFL backlight and the inverter are simultaneously failing. The microswitch that cuts off the display when you close the lid could also be sticking, but if that were the case I would not expect the external monitor to keep working when the LCD cuts out.

I have a little update:

The LCD in question stays lit when it's set to half-brightness.

could this information help diagnose the exact failure point... the CCFL backlight tube or the inverter?

CCFL. I just had the same issues and replaced mine.

It started as just not being able to light when it was cold out...and got progressively worse until it would never start.

Thanks for the information ricerocket. Where did you get your backlight, and did you replace it yourself?
