UJ-812 Multiburner

#1 Post by MadeInJapan » Sun Nov 14, 2004 1:49 am

I just got through taking apart a Japanese Toshiba Dynabook laptop that has a Panasonic/Matshita UJ-812 in it...that will fit the UltraBay Slim drives that are in the T40 series and some others....a covetted Multi-burner that burns DVD-RAM, DVD-R/RW and great job on CD-R/RW's. Only problem is that it has a silver face plate, and not black. I've searched the web to see it there is another faceplate/bezel that I can buy to replace the silver one. Anyone know? By the way, the laptop was badly trashed, and so flimsly built. The main reason I was taking it apart was to get the HDD out of it to put in my T30's UltraBay2000 HDD adapter to see if I could retrieve some data for a friend, but it wouldn't budge...just hummed and clicked in a rhythmic pattern...so, the HDD is trashed too. :( The screen is cracked to pieces....it's pretty much not worth fixing at all. The MB is good and so are some other goodies in it, like the memory (2700 DDR- 256MB) and a mini-pci modem/Wireless "G" card that might fit some Thinkpads.

Anyway, back to the UJ-812. If I were to offer it here or on eBay with the silver face plate, does anyone here think that it would sell? I want to help my friend re-coop some of the money she lost. Fortunately for her, she already has a replacement laptop that her parents sent her, but unfortunately they didn't buy her a ThinkPad, but another Toshiba instead. :(

First of all, sorry about the Dynabook. They're no IBM in terms of quality and all but they are still nice and pretty pricey. As for the optical drive, I'd say why not just put it up on this site (hey, you never know) before putting it up on eBay. If you want, you can put it up for sale on other sites if you are a member ie. Broadbandreports.com/DSLReports.com. They're good albeit you might get a bit less than what you might want for it. The last step I think is to put it up on eBay mainly because of the fee's and stuff. Good luck and hope all goes well. Kudos.

regards,
Chris
