reconditioned thinkpads
I recently bought a reconditioned t42 2373-x30 on ebay. I was just a wondering about the thinkpad product numeber "2373-x30" is this a older model. And what can i expect from a reconditioned thinkpad? The description said that it was open box return. The specs are pretty good 735 1.7ghz 512mb 80gb dvd/cdrw 9600 64mb. This is my first thinkpad so im a little worried about what i bought.

if you're worried then you should not use ebay..
never heard of an X30 model..
2373 refers to the T40 series..
might be X3 "oh", not X3 zero..
which would tend to indicate a non-US model..

Let IBM tell you what you have.
Go to the IBM site and put the model number in and see what IBM says it is...this is if there is no sticker on the front of the machine indicating what it is (which someone could put on themselves anyway). Good luck.
www.ibm.com then click on "support and downloads," then "personal computing." You'll see the rectangular window to put in your "product number." You can also let IBM detect your machine instead of putting in the numbers if you are accessing their site with your Thinkpad. Good luck!

A T42 is a T42 - they are all less than 6 months old. The 2373 designation is valid for any current or past T4x series. As the poster previously said. Put the model number in the search box at the top of the IBM.com page and see what is says. It's an odd number but it does show up.
If it's in good condition, no dead pixels, and working well, it probably was a bona-fide open box return, and you should be OK.
