Adding bluetooth to my T42

#1 Post by Andy M » Mon Nov 26, 2007 6:55 am

Hi ive just acquired a bluetooth card which i think is from a t42.
Its rectangular with a white folded label with information on covering the majority of the surface, a rectangular connector to the left, an aerial connector along the top, and 2 screw holes which look like earth points. Its made by anatel.

Will this fit into my T42 and where abouts will i connect it?

There is a CDC slot underneath the keyboard where it plugs in. Is your machine bluetooth/wireless ready? If not you'll need an antenna as well. You can use one leg of the wifi antenna for bluetooth, again if the machine is wireless ready and if the wire reaches to the CDC slot.

Hi Harry, I already have wireless with the Intel pro 2200 card, all built in using the screen aerials.

Pop the keyboard off and see if you have a bluetooth antenna. If you do have one then use it. It will be tucked away somewhere near the CDC slot. Again if you don't have one, you can use one wire from the dual wifi antenna for bluetooth as long as it reaches to the CDC slot.

Harryc,

Yours is a great idea for those of us that do not have a bluetooth antenna preinstalled.. using one of the wifi antennas for bluetooth.. have you done it ? how is the performance of WiFi reduced by leaving it with just one antenna ? any suggestion on what is best ? (using the 'main' or the 'aux' wifi antennas for bluetooh)

It's not my idea, in fact I read it on this forum. If you use one of the antenna for bluetooth, it negates a function in the adapter that searches for the strongest signal on both wires. If it finds a weak signal on the single wire you're stuck with it.
