Boy, if your mind isn't right it would be easy to misconstrue my intent in the title!
All kidding aside, I've tried and tried to get Fn functionality working on my XP setup. It is the ONLY thing that doesn't work and is beginning to drive me crazy!
Actually, some Fn functions DO work
Fn+F4 (standby or sleep)
Fn+F7 (screen swap)
All the rest do NOT work, yet if I go to the hotkey directory
C:\Program Files\Thinkpad\PkgMgr\HOTKEY
and click on the Fn files (e.g Fn+F2 LOCK, Fn+F5 on/off wireless), they work!
Can someone PLEASE explain why the executable works but not the KB hotkey? The software has been uninstalled and reinstalled many times. It is NOT the KB because W2K KB combinations (multi-boot) work perfect!
I recall changing install directories for HOTKEY and IBM utilities in the past; can this have anything to do with it? My inclination is to believe there is something awry in the registry, but how to fix it. Installing/uninstalling does not change existing directory entries in this regard.
Need a genius to help!
BTW: was wondering if others have HOTKEY installed in a different directory and lastly, what version Hotkey do you have? This one is 1.31 (IBM software package 7avu43ww.exe)

OK, figured it out. Some time ago I had disabled all services thought unnecessary. In that 'cleansing' IBMPMSVC.EXE was disabled. I did this because this file handles power management, yet XP handles power fine without it, EXCEPT for Fn+F5 functionality.
Yep, IBMPMSVC.EXE is required to have the well know Fn+F5 key WORK!
(we can add that to the multitude of required other items people have found)
Fn+F5 now works on my system
