#1 Post by Nicola » Wed Nov 28, 2007 12:22 pm

I am italian.
My insufficient english with automatic translator.

1)
Which of these two video cards consume less:
Radeon Mobility 9000
Radeon Mobility 9600
???

2)
Which is the adjustable minimal frequency (MHZ) of the cpu and the ram?

3)
Using the video card only for Internet and for to watch of the small video (NO film), the 9600 have which thing in more that it deserves regarding the 9000?

1) The Radeon Mobility 9000 will consume less power than the 9600.

2) I am not sure, but the ATI drivers come with Powerplay, which reduces the clock speeds when the GPU is not being used heavily. I personally would recommend using Powerplay instead of something like ATI tool to underclock your GPU.

3) For mainly internet usage, I would go ahead and get the 9000 since you main concern seems to be battery life. In my T40 I have the 7500 and it plays DVDs perfectly fine, so I don't see you having any problems with the 9000.

Thanks for your answers

1) Using it only for Internet I will set up lessened with PowerPlay.
"Travelling" to the same frequency it always consumes less the 9000?
The 9600 have little micron? The 9600 more new version than PowerPlay?

2) minimal hz? (for who it has this video cards and he can try it)

3) I have read that the 9600 have of the advance functions of decode video. The DVD has the high quality video, I think about video with "insufficient" quality (like my opening video of the cartoon)

1) The version of Powerplay will be the same with the 9000 and 9600. As far as I know, the 9000 and 9600 are built on the same process scale.

3) The 9600 will be better at video decoding as well as other things. This is the trade-off. The 9000 uses less power but doesn't perform as well as the 9600 in some things. I am not sure how much of a difference you would see in something like DVD playback.

Why bother which GPU uses less power than other one.

IMO, the CPU is the one that consumes also more watts. My T30 had the 7500 GPU and the machine overall had bad battery life.
If you're concerned on battery life, undervolt the CPU furthermore with Notebook Hardware Control. Video drivers provided by Lenovo provide the Powerplay feature when using the laptop in battery power.
I have not been able to reduce the GPU power consumption under AC power, ATI tool is the only way to go.
When underclocking my FireGL T2 (very similar to the 9600) I use ATI Tool and set the memory/core speeds at 70Hz. this shaves about 1-2C off.

When I buy the notebook, I will install a Banias 1,3 ghz. But I must understand, for my utilization if it is better the 9000 or the 9600; for to choose the adequate notebook.

Get the 9600. Powerplay feature works better on it.

Wow - amazing! Doesn't your display flicker, if updating the GPU with only 70 Hz and using a vertical refresh rate of 60 Hz??

Truly amazing...! :-)

Best regards,

i personally wish that my machine had the 9600 rather than the 9000 since it appears that ati no longer actively supports the 9000.

Excuse but I do not understand the meant of your phrase, also with the translators automatic.
You can rewrite it with punctuation and using short phrases?

He means:

9000 is old.
ATI does not support it.
So 9600 is better.

Which importance has the ATI support?
My ThinkPad T23 is not supported neither from IBM neither from Lenovo, and then? I use it.
