T42-serie Multiburner upgrade (+ silent mode problem)

#1 Post by Patrik28 » Wed Nov 28, 2007 2:23 pm

This present 2.4x DVD+/-R writing speed is quite slow (with UJ-822B model), so I'm asking: Is it possible to put a faster DVD writer to T42 laptop? I'm also confused that does T42-serie have a flat bezel drive?

External writer is not wanted option...

ps. Is it normal, that silent mode (from Windows xp power scheme settings) doesn't work with this same DVD writer? With my previous T23 it was nice to watch DVD films with low noise from drive. Now it is nearly compolsury to copy whole film to hdd first :(

You have a choice of getting the 40Y8622 - see more information about this drive and other alternatives in the threads: chosing a multiburner for T42 which is pointing to Swapping T60 Multiburner w/ T42 DVD/CDRW. More info in Best (cheapest/fastest) DVD-RW for T42? and Soldering connections to the UJ-832.

CD/DVD-drives with a flat bezel are intended for T60's, whereas CD/DVD-drives designed for T42's have a curved bezel.

I am able to watch DVD-movies (on T42/T42p's) with the "CD-ROM drive speed" set to "silent" [either in the BIOS or through the "ThinkPad Configuration" program] on a 40Y8622 without any troubles - I have never needed to copy anything to the harddisk.

Best regards,

Johan

Well, I have installed Windows couple times, swapped hdd's, but silent mode will not work. Same noise as normal or high performance. Not nice, when comparing to my old laptop. You could barely heard the disc spinning in T23.

I quess, I have to call to service, or try other DVD drive (does DVD drive have the same warranty as the machine, or only limited as a battery) There seems to be some reading problems too, even I have gently tried to clean discs, and the lens.

It has the same warranty, I have a 2+ year old t43p, and they sent me a brand new (manufactured july 2007, unopened) DVD multiburner, no questions asked, free shipping both ways, next day.
t43p - 1.86ghz - 2gb/667 - 60gb - 15" UXGA - dvd burner - dual batt
