T40 infrared
T40 infrared
I have a company T40 (win2k), but the IT dept. image doesn't include the infrared driver nor the Thinkpad utilities.
the infra red appears in the Hardware > Device manager window,
but when I bring the T40 near an A31p (which has the infrared working, I tested it with a nokia phone) there's no connection on either TP.
The T40 doesn't connect to the nokia phone either.
I want to share files among the two TP's.
where is the driver for this? I looked all over IBM's site and couldn't find.
I have only found this:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... us&lang=en
which is for older tp's.
thanks

thanks for your reply
but persumably, your Ipaq works through the HP drivers or desktop synchronizer installed in the Thinkpad.
For infra liking two thinkpad, I can't see what software will be there for it other than the built in driver.

Hi PetraM,
good to read that at least somebody else has exactly the same problem, that I had a few months ago on my new T40p.
I tried to connect to other notebooks, they found the T40p infrared signal, but could not connect.
I later found out that on the T40p image all the Windows dll drivers for infrared are missing. Infrared is there, the signal is there, but the Windows services are missing.
I realized this when I went to the Control Panel / Wireless and only found the Bluetooth.
Quick check on other Thinkpads -> Infrared is missing.
So I copied the missing windows files (I forgot the names, something with irdasub.sys / dll or so) from a T20 and everything went fine.
BTW: the IBM phone support was crap, they told me several times to reinstall fresh Windows (but that's what I did a few times).
