upgrading cpu and wireless card?
Hello,
I have a t42 (type 2372) 1.7ghz in which i want to upgrade my CPU, the posts i have read only go up to 2.1ghz. did anyone try to upgrade a t42 to a new mainboard that supports a dual core intel from a t61 mainboard/cpu? (or is the chassis fundamentally different from the lenovo to ibm eras?)
my second question is regarding my wireless card intel 2200bg upgrade to a Senao/Engenius NMP-8602+ in a t43.
it seems both are mini pci's, but i was wondering if the t42 can supply enough power to the Senao/Engenius NMP-8602+ card? did anyone try this card? it is very sensitive.... but i don't know how much more sensitive than the 2200bg card since i cannot find any information on this card... i am guessing from the rave review on seattlewireless.com that this card is better. i would like to verify first.
thanks,

My answers are not going to "make your day". No dual core boards will fit in your case. They are entirely different. The T43 only allows certain wireless cards (kept in a BIOS whitelist). The patch/hack to allow you to bypass the card check does not work in the T43. (your 2nd paragraph asked about a T43) If it is a typo and you are really asking about a T42, the answer is "I don't know", but the patch/hack works in the T42.
The problem with T43 (and later machines) is that they use a different eeprom to store the non-volitile data (like passwords) I have all the info for reading and writing the chips (I use it for coping with serial numbers, passwords, etc. ) I also have the source code for the normal hack, but I've been afraid to risk turning a perfectly good T43 into a doorstop by writing crap into the eeprom while testing. I also don't have the skills to disassemble the BIOS and see if it even checks.
The no1802 bios hack won't work on the T43. There is another way to do it though, by changing the PCI ID of the wireless card, but that introduces other issues (like how to load the drivers if the PCI ID don't match).frdchang wrote:hi richk,
thanks for the response. i guess that settles that..
i was interested in updating the wireless card for the t43. anyone can interject if the patch/hack got updated to work for the t43?
thanks,
will forcing windows to use a driver that does not have the PCI ID numbers match be ok? or will something else break?aaa wrote:The no1802 bios hack won't work on the T43.
