got my 2373-q1u

#1 Post by shahinrawther » Mon Nov 15, 2004 8:30 pm

got my t42, using an ibm thinkpad for the first time, simply amazing. i had a dell for couple of years, this one is a totally fabulous xperience, has a 1600x 1200 display, and finger print authentication. Finger print authentication is cool, so easy to use, i dont think its more secure than the pwd, but just cool to have it. Also i was sceptical about the absence of the windows key, but i can configure a key to act as windows key. so that looks ok. I hate the fn key all the way to the left, it is the slot for the ctrl key. Key board has a pretty assuring feel. but i dont know whether it is chinese or thai. i checked the parts page in the ibm site, it says
93P4750 93P4780 KEYBOARDS US ENGLISH NMB...

The thing that surprised me was there were no cds or any thing other than a couple of rubber heads for the track point was shipped with this laptop.

I had the finger print authentication working with the windows XP login screen, which was great. Now i installed the ibm client security software and now there are no win xp logins, its a blue and white ibm login box, which doesnt look as nice as the xp login screen.

My only problem is, i want to partition the harddrive and put my personal files on the second partition,so that i can do the recovery on the c drive if something goes wrong, with out fear of losing my data. Has any one done that ? Is it risky or can i just follow the step by step instructions posted esle where in this forum to do the sp install step by step and configure the machine the way i want. This one came with Win xp sp2 pre installed.

So all is good for now, dont see any probs.

Dear Shahinrawther,

Congratulations on your purchase! I just got the same machine model as you (Q1U). I sent you a PM. Did you get it?

Please let me know.

Thank you, Shahrinrawther.

Best regards,

Jordi
