CD-RW automaticaly ejects

Hello all, my son's T43 has a strange problem. The CD-RW drive will every now and then automatically ejects when there is no CD inside the drive. Sometimes it occurs so frequently that it becomes a nuisance. What is the cause of this? Thanks!
